Scotland in Playoffs in Moncton

David Murdoch, Ewan MacDonald, Peter Smith and Euan Byers defeated Canada's Kevin Martin in an extra end yesterday to finish in second place after the round robin games at the 2009 Ford World Men’s Curling Championship in Moncton.

Canada finished first with a 10-1 win-loss record, with Scotland at 8-3. These two teams will meet again in the Page 1-2 playoff tonight, the winner advancing to Sunday’s championship final, the loser to the semifinal.

Four teams tied at 7-4 for the two remaining playoff spots. The United States plays Norway and Germany faces Switzerland in tiebreakers, the winners contesting the Page 3-4 game tomorrow. The winner of that game advances to the semifinal. The loser goes to the bronze medal game, and meets the loser of the semifinal.
