Eve to be Olympic skip

British Curling has today confirmed the starting line-up for the Olympic Women’s Squad for next season, see here. The skip will be the current Columba Cream Scottish Champion Eve Muirhead. Vice is Jackie Lockhart. Second will be Kelly Wood, and that gives Kel a challenge in adapting to that position. Lorna Vevers gets the nod at lead, in preference to Karen Addison who starts as alternate.

Olympic Coach Nancy Murdoch says, “Naming the positions of the squad in advance gives us maximum opportunity going forward to shape and gel together as a team, until the final team selection and positions are announced in December. I believe this combination of athletes offers the greatest potential for success in Vancouver 2010.”

With a tough set of competitions ahead, including the European Championship, in the run up to Vancouver, it will indeed be interesting to watch how this new team develops.

There are already sceptics. Read what one Canadian journalist has to say here.
