Sun shines at Meadowbank

The Meadowbank Sports Centre in Edinburgh was the venue for the 49th AGM of the Ladies' Branch of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club. It was a beautiful sunny day in the capital and there was much to celebrate. For example, Eve Muirhead, Anna Sloan, Vicki Adams and Sarah Macintyre (above) took it in turns to tell the story of their success at the World Juniors in Vancouver.

The meeting itself, attended by some 200 members, ran smoothly and was efficiently chaired by outgoing President Sheila Miller. The former Scottish Curler Editor was visible moved at receiving a presentation to record his retirement.

Vernon has not been forgotten, being mentioned by Sheila, by Gail Munro and by Bob Tait, the Chairman of the RCCC Board, a guest at the meeting. We learned that Bob hopes to be able to communicate the Conduct Panel's decision.... sometime, but in the meantime he suggested that all in the hall read every word of the Nicholson report, and form their own conclusions. We learned from Gail that the National Coach (and his advisors) have instituted official complaint procedures against her because she leaked the Conduct Panel's decision to the media!

The saga continues. I have my own opinions. I am advised not to print them here. So I would just like to say.... "I really like the Andorran entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009. See here or here. (It's the girls with the guitars again!)"

Anyway, back in the sunshine, Kay Gibb is now the Ladies' Branch President.

Here are the Ladies' Branch Office Bearers. L-R: Sadie Anderson (Treasurer), Brenda Macintyre (Vice President), Kay Gibb (President) and Claire McLaren (Junior Vice President).

Here are the Past Presidents. How many can you identify. (Click on the photo to see it in a larger size).

Immediate Past President Sheila Miller in her new job as the Royal Club's sommelier. That's Helen Chrichton resisting Sheila's attempt to refill her glass, as Judith McFarlane denies having finished the white!

No, it's not a prayer meeting. Centre Representatives try not to blink as Bob attempts to get a group shot. (Click on pic to get larger image). Other captions are available! And a second, more successful, attempt will appear in the RCCC Annual!

  1. I know you are just too modest to tell it as it is! Bob, your gift from Ladies Branch (not LSC) was a very small token of our appreciation of your support for Ladies Curling and also in recognition of the fantastic job you have done and continue to do in your journalistic capacity within the magazine and on the your blog. THANK YOU
