Outside in New Zealand

New Zealand curlers are enjoying a cold snap and there have been a number of bonspiels on the Idaburn Dam, near Oturehua, which already has six inches of ice. There is a fabulous video showing play on the outside ice this week here.

Read about 'Sisters on ice throw their stones' here.

Hopes are high that the call will go out for the 'national bonspiel' next week, the NZ equivalent of the Grand Match. This was last held two years ago when the photo above was taken by John Fridd.

There is footage of the 2001 event here, just ignore the first couple of minutes showing skaters 'vandalising' perfectly good curling ice!

John's photo is from the Scottish Curler archive.
